Fantasy Spoilers
The recent flap about the Strange Horizons spoilers article (see for example YHL's entry; I have a comment there somewheres) has gotten me thinking ... so I've come up with a possible spoiler ending for Xanth™. I think it follows the spirit of the series well enough, considering that it's an ending. You should be aware that I haven't read any Xanth beyond the first 25 books. Caveat there may be additional spoilers. Also, it could be disturbing, in rare cases.
(I should try to remember the rest of what I was going to say here before making this public, but what the heck)
Grundy Golem takes The Ring, which is more like an anklet in his case, and attempts to somehow destroy the Harpy King, Lord Fowl. Distracted by a loqacious loquat that thinks it's a yak due to an IQ vine, Grundy realizes "seventeen syllables" too late that The Ring is not only not white gold, but has a crude inscription saying "#### you, Baggins" on it.
The Demon, in a terrible grief, abolishes Xanth and, as a trivial side-affect, causes the retroactive fall of the Two Towers. On the other hand, Bink is translated and transformed into the multi-tentacled hero of an Arcturian Odor Epic. After all, archetypes are forever!
Don't say I didn't warn you! And I reserve the right to add further embellishments in the future (if not the past).
Xanth is a trademark of Piers Anthony Dillingham Jacob.
