Telephone Weirdness
2004-Sep-15, Wednesday 16:10Some completely unknown party has switched my telephone service without permission. I've spent 90 (ninety) minutes trying to find out. I noticed when call return didn't work. I'm not sure if I have long distance service at all -- the # for determining that tells me I need an access code to call it. The # for determining local service doesn't work.
[ added 2004-09-16 around 16:00: I called ddb this morning and he said the name and # showing on his call return was not mine. He only picked up the phone because of my 2 calls yesterday that went as far as the answering machine. When the phone company hadn't called me back as planned, I called them again. After most of another hour, they were able to figure out the following: someone with another company was moving and ordered a change of address. The company entered mine by mistake. An order was thus sent to whoever handles this saying that my address had a new #. This caused cancellation of my existing #. However, I still have local service under somebody else's name and #, until they figure it out. Meanwhile, back at the ranch: my phone company's order department couldn't reach me because my correct # was disconnected. So I have to call them in an hour or so to try to get everything restored. ]
[ added 2004-09-17 around 16:00: They were lying to me! If this weren't on LiveJournal, I'd phrase that a bit differently. I have to get a new #, which won't be connected for at least a week, maybe 2. I'm beginning to wonder why more people aren't terrorists. Long live Dick and Jane! ]
Unrelated to this, the telephone directories are delayed about 3 weeks due to weather.
I'm going to post this now, but plan to edit it later to add more details.
