2005.Apr.10: I still haven't finished. This is the new entry. Additions marked with *.

2004.Nov.03: I'm still not finished answering. I guess I'll make leave this entry with the partial answers as is, and make a new entry later.

Questions from [livejournal.com profile] isquiesque:

1. I adore languages, but am more intent on trying to master a few of the ones that already exist, whereas you are trying to create new ones. How did you get started doing this? Do you also enjoy learning about languages that already exist, or is asking this akin to comparing apples and oranges?

I don't remember exactly how I got started -- it was a bit over 30 years ago -- but probably because I had started learning some foreign languages and wanted to improve on them. I like learning about natural languages, but am not good at actually using them. That last part applies to English as well.

2. You've been your own boss for quite awhile. What do you feel are the largest pros and cons of being self-employed? Do you think you'll ever go back to working for others?

The largest con is lack of money. Self-employed in my case is mostly unemployed. The largest pro is that it's almost impossible for me to work a regular schedule for any length of time.

* I've actually done some temporary part-time non-professional work since Norwescon. My boss is even more erratic than I am.

3. Name three hobbies and what you enjoy most about each.

a) constructing languages
b) music
c) making wooden furniture

* I don't know how to answer the second part. I'll only say that I haven't done much of the last 2 recently, due to circumstances. Possibly, I should substitute the perennial favorite

d) reading science fiction

even if I haven't been able to do much of that lately either.

4. What is the single largest misconception that people seem to have about you and why, in your opinion, do they think the way that they do?

I'm sure people have misconceptions about me, but I don't know what they are. I wonder who I could ask?

5. To what extent does your belief in the Lotus Sutra affect your choices in life? If you say that it has a significant influence, is it difficult to see the things that are transpiring around you? The way in which so few see the importance of mutual respect, respect for the earth, etc?

I think it makes me more aware that there are choices, and what they are. Although I don't always see things in a timely manner.

* I'd say there are effects of practicing the Lotus Sutra, although different ones at different times.

nothing behind cut actually )

* Oh, and I'm supposed to come up with 5 questions for anybody who asks here.
