I had a small lake under my floor for a couple days. Coming out of the bathroom, I heard a loud sloshing sound. At first I thought it was upstairs, but I figured out that it happened when I stepped on or off certain tiles in the hall. Of course, this happened Saturday afternoon, so nobody was in the office.

I finally got to the office buikding Monday afternoon after the rain stopped. A repair guy came out and looked a the water heater and air conditioner. After filling a couple plastic containers with water from the AC, he decided it must be a clogged drain and went outside.

But before he could unclog the drain, he had to find it. This involved three people digging up the bushes until they hit the pipe (or whatever: I couldn't see it from the window). Fortunately, they didn't have to dig up the tree. Then the drain was quickly unclogged and the bushes replanted.

It took another day or so for the sloshing to go away.

Yikes! One of my greatest fears is to come home and find standing water. In fact, a general fear of mine is to open the door of my house and find it in some condition other than I expect it. Ick...

Fortunately, the water was standing under the floor, not on top of it, although that's happened here too (falling down isn't always fun). And at one point, my old apartment had three indoor waterfalls. Luxurious.

I try not to worry about my apartment. One time, I left the front door of my old place unlocked when I went away for the weekend. When I came back, the door was open, but nothing was missing (or rather, anything I couldn't find, I couldn't find before, either). Probably the burglars thought somebody'd already ransacked the place, based on appearances.

Ha! You know, after writing that comment, my dreams must have been affected, because I dreamt that my car had been broken into yet again, and that they'd literally cut out the middle section of the car (the emergency brake, the stereo, the AC controls, the gear shift, everything). No water, though.
